PROBLEM SIGNS

VISIBLE MOLD

In climates where high humidity is present 12-months a year, mold is a constant battle, causing a myriad of problems with our homes and health.

If you have visible mold and fungi, excess moisture is present in your home. In some cases, remediation may be necessary. But mold remediation is only a temporary solution. You must control the indoor humidity to prevent mold. Healthy levels of indoor relative humidity are 40%-50%, well below the threshold for mold growth of 60%. A permanent dehumidification solution will prevent fungi growth and promote superior indoor air quality.

At Southern Climate Solutions, we worked with 1000’s of homeowners across the Gulf Coast, providing permanent dehumidification solutions to combat the negative effects of excess moisture for over 20-years.

WHY A/C ISNT ENOUGH

No structure or human is immune to the negative effects of high humidity. Your home, contents and health can suffer from many hazards as a result of the moisture produced in our highly humid environment.

Along the Gulf Coast, the average annual relative humidity is 75%, with averages of 86% in the mornings. Our region has extreme humidity 12-months a year with December being one of the highest humidity months.

While A/C helps to dehumidify, it’s meant to cool and typically isn’t effective or efficient at moisture removal in a sub-tropical environment. One reason is that A/C only removes moisture when it is engaged. In Florida and Alabama, we sinply need more than what our air conditioners can provide when it comes to excess moisture.

To efficiently and effectively control moisture, dehumidification is the best solution to protect your home and your families health.

The efficiency and effectiveness of dehumidifcation can often be recognized in energy savings. According to the U.S. Department of Energy, controlling moisture can make your home more energy-efficient, less costly to heat and cool, more comfortable, and prevent mold growth. And that’s exactly what our customers experience.

A drier space is naturally cooler and that leads to energy savings. Many of our customers have seen savings between 20%-30%. The Department of Energy states that for every degree the thermostat can be raised in the summer months, a savings of 3%-5% can be gained.

According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, indoor relative humidity should be kept below 60%, ideally between 40%-50%. Te threshold for mold growth is 60% RH.
humidity monitor
One of the best ways to monitor your home is to invest in a hygrometer, a device that monitors indoor relative humidity. The ideal indoor RH is 50%.
